Lucas is 5 months
Here we are, already at 5 months! Lucas continues to be such an easygoing baby, but he definitely likes his routines (more about that in my Hilton Head post.) At 5 months Lucas:
Compare to Christian at 5 months.
- Loves watching and learning from his big brother. One evening while my parents were visiting Christian was bouncing a kickball on his head continually in return for Lucas' giggles and big belly laughs. Such a sweet and silly moment.
- Is trying to grasp for everything that he can reach but doesn't quite have that hand-eye coordination just yet. However, he did pull a bowl of cereal and milk in my lap this morning at breakfast while he was sitting in my lap.
- Is starting to really like his rice cereal. He has only tried rice cereal and bananas so far.
- Is still tooth-less even though I thought he was getting his first tooth a month ago. He is drooling like crazy and always has something in his mouth- like his thumb!
- Wears size 2 diapers and 3-6 month clothing...a few 3 month still.
- Sleeps through the night regularly (8pm to 8am) with a good afternoon nap (usually 3 hours) and a random morning one (we are always so busy and on the go in the mornings.)
- Is rolling over, both back to front and front to back. Although he doesn't seem to like being on his belly (he needs to build that arm strength.) Otherwise he is scootching himself around all over.
- Is beginning to "talk" more and more and develop his vocal cords. It's amazing how loud such a little person can be!
- Loves to be held.
- Enjoys being outside and loves his rides in the stroller.

Papa and Nana's Visit and Hilton Head Getaway
This past week Papa and Nana came to visit us from Colorado. My dad hadn't seen us since last September when they came to visit us, and hadn't even met Lucas yet. We always enjoy taking a little trip when they come to visit (my Dad gets a little restless.) So far on their trips to South Carolina we have visited Myrtle Beach and Charleston. This time we traveled south three hours to Hilton Head and took a day trip to Savannah, Georgia.
Hilton Head Island was beautiful with great restaurants, shopping, golf (for a particular someone,) oh, and I almost forgot- the beach! What made this trip especially fun was to see how much Christian liked playing on the beach. On past beach visits (Myrtle, Charleston, Tampa) he has not shown a lot of interest in the sand or water. This time he really enjoyed jumping in the waves with Nana and Papa, building sand castles with Daddy, and searching for small sea creatures (although the beach was nearly spotless.) We went every afternoon of the three days we were there, and it was just perfect with very few other people, and warm water and clean sand. (We went to Coligny Beach and could take a short walk from our condo.) This was also Lucas' first beach visit.
We also went to Savannah one day and took a trolley tour of the city, although we all agreed that maybe just touring the city on our own would have been a better option. Regardless, we enjoyed seeing the old buildings and unique park-like city squares. I think we all agreed that Savannah doesn't hold a flame to our favorite South Carolina destination: Charleston!
Christian was a great traveller (he is very well-traveled after all) and Lucas not so much. This child definitely likes his routines, and as long as we follow them is very pleasant and mild-mannered. I can't complain though, because both boys still slept through the night each night.
The last day of my parents' visit, Steve went to work, Papa played golf at the private golf course in Sumter, and Nana, Christian, Lucas and I attended the Swan Lake Iris Festival. A fun visit in itself- lots of vendors, food, and free activities for kids. Christian enjoyed jumping in a bouncy house for the first time (probably because there were not a lot of older children taking over.) That evening Steve and I got a little time to ourselves and went to see the Avengers! Great movie! :)
Overall, we had such a great time with Nana and Papa, it was good to relax, see a new place, and Christian just loved throwing the ball around with Papa.

Lucas' First Solid Food(s)
Last Monday I gave Lucas his first rice cereal. He has been very interested in watching us at meal times, so I thought I would give it a try. Lucas really seemed to enjoy it this first time, but since then he hasn't been as excited, so I am taking it slow. Being that he is only 4.5 months there is no need to rush. He does, however, love bananas! And his little thumb too. :o)

Rollin' Rollin' Rollin'
Littlest man rolled over today for the first time from back to front. I knew it was going to happen soon, the way he kept swinging his little legs to the side and how he usually immediately turns his body when I lay him down so that he is sleeping on his right side. The problem is figuring out how to move the arm that gets left behind. :) Now Lucas just needs to learn how to roll from front to back because he becomes frustrated shortly after flipping over. Christian was probably just as excited as I was when we found Lucas on his front; he thought he would try to manually flip him over too. (I just noticed: Lucas is sporting a blue Cookie Monster sticker on his leg courtesy of Big Brother.)
