Lucas is 9 Months

Another busy month for Lu Bug! Our sweet, easy going baby is still just that, but with a little spunk and opinion added to the mix. Lucas now enjoys sitting on his own, and is getting really close to crawling. Although he looks a little bald, he actually has blond hair just like Big Brother...I wonder if it will be curly too? Lucas is now sporting four teeth, two on the bottom and two on the top. As of late (not sure if he is starting to teeth again) he has been starting to reject his baby purees and really prefer"big boy" food that he can put in his mouth and chew on...just one step closer to not needing to be spoon fed (yay!) Despite the fact that Lucas eats and eats, often more than Christian, I am not sure where he puts it. At Lucas' 9 month well-baby checkup (1 week early I must mention) he weighed 16 pounds 13 ounces, putting him in the less than 3rd percentile, and was 28.25 inches long, putting him in the 41st percentile for baby boys his age. He is still wearing a size 3 diaper and wears 6-12 month clothing. Lucas loves to give hugs and big open-mouth kisses, especially to Big Brother, whom he adores. My favorite thing right now is to see the boys playing together, to hear Christian talking sweet to Lucas, and to continue to watch the special bond form. Such a blessing to be parents to these amazing kiddos!

Christian is Three

My how the time flies by! Our (oldest) baby is 3 years old! What an adventure the past year has been.

A few highlights from the year:
September 2011: Nana and Papa's visit
November 2011: Disney World
December 2011: Baby brother Lucas was born and Grandpa and Grandma came to visit for Christmas
January 2012: Nana came to visit and help with baby Lucas
April 2012: Aunt Kristi's visit and Grandpa and Grandma's visit
May 2012: Shaw AFB Air Show and Nana and Papa's visit
July 2012: Special Colorado visit

What Christian is doing now:
Loves:
  • His stuffed animals (Doggy, Piglet, Tigger, Blankie, and Luke's Bunny)
  • Daddy and Mommy
  • "Wookus"
  • 5 t-shirts in particular: boat, whale, horse, shark, surfboard (sometimes wearing them all in one day. I have tried confiscating a couple of them, but he continues to ask for them.)
  • Art projects: drawing, play dough, painting, chalk
  • Building with Lego's, bristle blocks
  • His friends (most of which are girls: Hannah, Brooke, Mady, Evalee, Jojo.) He also talks about the girls at school often.
  • Playing with balls
  • To go and be out and about (each morning he asks "Where my go?")
  • School
Dislikes:
  • Bath time and getting his face wet. (He now prefers showers instead.)
  • Food? Not really, but Christian continues to be a picky eater. He is, however, an excellent drinker- I think he quite possibly lives on liquids at times.
Christian is a sweet boy, an excellent sharer, and is always looking out and taking care of others (a characteristic that I hope Christian will continue to possess.) I love how he will kiss our "owies" and quickly say, "I sharry (sorry)" when he knows he has hurt someone's feelings, etc.

Christian is a great big brother, and Lucas is C's Number One Fan. When Lucas is napping he always asks if he can open Luke's door. I love to hear our boys giggling together and to see the relationship that is forming. We pray that Christian will be a great example for Lucas in the years to come.

Christian enjoys helping out in the yard and around the house (puts his clothes away in drawers, "mows" the yard, helps empty the dishwasher, feeds Phoenix, wipes the spots off the floor, etc.) It is actually beginning to be quite helpful, and I know C takes pride in his little accomplishments. I am glad it is still fun for him to help, versus later when I am sure it may be like pulling teeth to get him to do chores. ;)

Has become very self-sufficient (picks out his clothes and gets dressed on his own, uses the potty (HOORAY for no more diapers, other than rest times.)

At C's 3 year check up today he weighed 33 pounds putting him in the 64th percentile, and was 38.5 inches tall putting him in 73rd percentile for boys his age.

For Christian's Birthday on Monday he went to school where he had a little birthday celebration with his friends with cupcakes! For dinner we had homemade macaroni and cheese (his request- although I think he maybe had three bites) and more cupcakes. He then opened his gifts from family. On Saturday we are throwing a little birthday party with some of his friends.

Little Sitter

Right after Lucas turned 8 months he began sitting on his own. My, what a happy little boy he is now! I like it because he will happily play independently for long periods of time while I cook or do things around the house. He is also really beginning to scooch himself around...it won't be long until he starts crawling too. (Yikes!)

Happy Hands

Lucas has what we call "happy hands." He is always moving them in the air, and wiggling his little fingers. It seems like lots of the time it is out of excitement or when he is sitting in his high chair being fed (this kid loves to eat,) but really he just does it all the time! Happy to have such a happy little guy!

Christian Says

Some of the random or cute things Christian has been saying the past couple months that make us smile:
  • "Tome here (Mommy/Daddy/"Wookus")"- He always wants to show us or have us watch something.
  • "(Mommy/Daddy,) hold you"- (Mommy/Daddy hold me.) My mom says I used to say the same thing.
  • "Lucas prize"- This was totally random, not even sure where he learned about prizes, but he said it one day in conjunction with one of Lucas' diapers.
  • "Arghh, Batman!"- When he is frustrated or angry this is what he says. No idea why, he doesn't even know who Batman is other than the picture on his sunglasses.
  • "Erin" or "Steve"- Not cute. When he really wants our attention or we haven't responded to Mommy or Daddy, Christian calls us by our first names. :\ We are often reminding him that "yes, that is my name, but you call me Mommy/Daddy."

Good Morning!

See my two bottom teeth? And Mommy's new(ish) cut?
